Microsoft has already started work on the next Windows release

Windows 9 is a work in progress at Microsoft, with some people familiar with the matter hinting that a public beta could be released as early as next year.

Of course, Windows 9 is expected to include several major updates, among which a revised Start screen and even more options aimed at touch-capable devices.

There’s one feature, however, that users have been asking for ever since Windows 8 was launched and which would probably be left out in the next full Windows release: Aero.

The Aero effects available in Windows 7 have often been praised by users who made the move to Windows 8 and were disappointed with the flat look of the modern operating system.

There’s no way to bring back Aero in Windows 8 or 8.1 unless you turn to some third-party apps and more complex guides, but at least it’s possible.

Now we hear from our users that Aero should be brought back in Windows 9 together with a fully-featured Start Menu that would basically make a better difference between the Modern UI, which is aimed at tablets, and the desktop environment.

Of course, that’s highly unlikely to happen for one simple reason. If Microsoft indeed decides to bring back the Aero glass effects and the Start Menu, it basically means that the company launches more of a revised version of Windows 7 at a time when it invests millions of dollars in its efforts to make the modern platform successful.

Truth is, both would make Windows 9 a much more successful product and would clearly be proof that Microsoft is actually really listening to customer feedback.

We’re all going to find out whether Windows 9 would bring in any visual changes in the coming months, as the public launch is rumored to take place in late 2014 or early 2015.
