Aereo has simplified its TV streaming pricing plans, with the cheapest subscription at $8 (€6.15 ) per month.

The online streaming service has announced a new pricing structure for its TV streaming service, The Verge reports.

Consumers can now start with a base membership plan of $8 (€6.15) per month for use of Aereo’s cloud-based antenna/DVR technology and 20 hours of DVR footage. Add another $4 (€3.08) and users can upgrade to 60 hours of DVR storage.

The first month of service is also free so they can attract more customers.

“We looked at our data and it was clear, customers want a more simple approach to pricing,” Chet Kanojia, Aereo CEO, said in a statement.

They now think that the new pricing structure will make consumers understand the plans more easily.

The new plans are effective starting Wednesday, May 15, the same day that the service hits Boston, its second market after New York. They also plan to reach 22 cities in total in the close future.

The company has been having some legal problems lately as traditional broadcasters want to block Aereo’s access to their programming.

However, the online streaming service has filed a preemptive legal action against these companies, asking the Judge to rule against them in base of one lawsuit they won in New York.

CBS seems to be the company’s biggest concern for now, but other broadcasters are also getting riled up.

The aforementioned TV station has also made another move to combat Aereo, namely investing in a streaming company called Syncbak.

ABC, on the other side, will update their mobile app with a new “Live” button that should allow users to tune in to live programming on their devices. The new feature will be available starting Tuesday, May 14, to customers who subscribe to pay-TV providers and will require them to authenticate their accounts to gain access to the programming.
