The 0.3.0.5 variant of the Advanced Onion Router, a piece of software designed as an improved alternative for the Tor+Vidalia+Privoxy bundle, fixes bugs that affected its functionality, but it also resolves an important buffer overflow error which could have allowed a hacker to remotely exploit a device.

The buffer overflow issue was corrected in version 0.3.0.4b, which means that those who update to the latest version will be protected, but customers who utilize previous versions remain susceptible to an attack.

Another error that was corrected refers to the option to reject .exitname.exit hostnames. When it was enabled, addresses that were mapped to exit nodes were also rejected.

Besides these flaws, some interesting configuration options and support for NTLM proxies were also added.

In Advanced Onion Router 0.3.0.5 the NTLM proxy can be chained with ORProxy and DirProxy if needed and, when enabled, the NTLM proxy will always be the first in a proxy chain.

Advanced Onion Router 0.3.0.5 is available for download here.
