Researchers say thermal solutions may become 50 percent more effective

Electronic devices nowadays are plagued by heat problems very often. One of the reasons why this happens is that components such as transistors are crammed so tightly against each other that heat cannot be efficiently dispersed. This leads to numerous problems that decrease performances.

A team of investigators from the National University of Singapore (NUS) says that such issues may soon become history. The group announces the development of a new type of cooling system, which may be up to 50 percent more efficient than existing thermal control systems for electronics.

Furthermore, the team says that its innovative approach will also enable a lower level of energy consumption, thus further improving the power efficiency of future electronics. An added benefit is the lack of a fan or any other sound source in the system, Science Daily reports.

“We have worked on this technique for two years before we hit on the right set up,” says NUS expert Dr. Lee Poh Seng, the lead author of the new study. The work is being sponsored by US National Research Foundation, and should produce a working prototype by the end of 2014.
