The Open Handset Alliance has received another important member in its lines, namely the Swedish-Japanese mobile manufacturer Sony Ericsson. With this new inclusion, the Alliance is now made up of almost all the biggest names in the mobile industry, short of Nokia, which is the only company still resisting this mobile company collaboration process.

Now that Sony has joined the Alliance, and also considering the fact that it is a company that seems to be in good shape since its market share value is constantly going up, it now feels that all the projects it feared to take on so far are much more approachable, thanks to the support it is receiving.

The “loudest” rumor as of late is that the company is finally considering one of the things that users have debating for some time. In other words, the mobile manufacturer has declared that it is now ready to take on projects involving high-end Android devices, since a more fruitful collaboration is approachable now.

Rikko Sakaguchi, CVP and head of Creation and Development at Sony Ericsson stated regarding such a development that, “Sony Ericsson is excited to announce its membership of the Open Handset Alliance and confirm its intention to develop a handset based on the Android platform. [...] We believe Sony Ericsson can bring a wealth of experience in making consumer focused multimedia handsets with new user experience to the Alliance drawing on the successes of the Walkman and Cyber-shot sub-brands. Sony Ericsson is a strong supporter of open operating systems and we believe the Open Handset Alliance offers an exciting opportunity for a new and unique user experience only Sony Ericsson can deliver.”

Since this idea has been highly successful among users that believed that the Xperia X1, for example, would greatly improve Sony's devices, now that such a project has been officially announced, a new kind of frenzy has been created. Expectations are high and fans are waiting now not only for the Android OS on the already existing models, but also for new, improved devices including the highly appreciated operating system.

In order to answer these requests, information has been released that advanced handset mobiles equipped with Android are set to be fully developed in a few months, namely, sometime in the summer of 2009.
