Advance Wars is a turn-based tactics video game developed for the GameBoy Advance by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo in 2001. The objective of this game is to defeat the enemy army. There are two ways to defeat an opponent: destroy every one of his units on the map or capture his headquarters. If you are playing vs mode against a human, you may try to get them to surrender or defeat them using the other ways. The battle system in Advance Wars is turn-based.

Two or more armies, each headed by a commanding officer, take turns building and commanding units on grid-based maps. When a unit is selected, spaces around it are highlighted; this represents the unit's movement range. A unit can move to any unoccupied space that is highlighted. After moving, a command list appears with available unit commands. The default command is wait, a "no action" command which can always be used.

Cheats

Press Start + Select + B + A during game play. Note: Do not use this while the Game Boy Advance is linked to a Gamecube or it may cause data loss.

Ghost mode:
Hold B during your turn.

Glowing field training:
To make the field training glow bright flashing gold at the beginning of Advance Wars, get an "A" rank on every mission in field training.

Advance campaign mode:
Successfully complete campaign mode. Enter the battle maps screen and buy
the "Advance Campaign" item for one coin. Hold Select and select campaign mode to begin and advanced campaign, with a more difficult CPU opponent.

Field Training bonuses:
Successfully complete field training mode to unlock the "War Room", "Campaign", "Design Maps", "Stats", and "Special Intel" options.

Quickly finish Field Training:
Select the final battle in Field Training. Win that battle to quickly unlock all options that normally require Field Training to be completed.

Tips

Easy money:
If you defeat a country's factory but do not have the money to buy any COs or maps, just restart the campaign. None of your early COs or maps will be gone. You can replay the campaign and do all the easy missions and get about 300 points every time then easily buy the COs and maps.

Stop the enemy from the building:
Place a medium tank or any other troop type on an enemy building.

Load more units to transporter ships:
Deploy an APC and load a unit inside it. Next, load the APC to a Lander. You can also deploy T-Copter and load a unit to it. Then, load the T-Copter to a Cruiser.

Search fog of war maps for troops without wasting moves:
To see if an area covered by fog of war has troops in it, move your troops over that area. However, instead of telling them to wait after moving, press B to go back and search another area. If nothing happens, the space is empty. If occupied, your unit will be forced to wait. Note: This uses a lot of fuel.

Select the one you want for the final battle:
During campaign mode, do what you have to do to buy a C.O. For example, to play as Grit do mission 4 as Max. If you want to play as Max and Sami, do not complete the requirements to unlock a C.O.

Final battle:
One of the best teams is Max and Eagle. To get them, use Andy in Max Strikes and Sami for all four Green Earth missions. To defeat Sturm, move Andy in a defensive position where he is located. Move Eagle's forces over the mountains behind Andy. Move Max's forces north. Make sure that Max takes the first Meteor Strike. After you have destroyed Sturm's initial force, push up into Sturm's area and beat him up.
