NPD Group has conducted a recent market research in order to establish the main target of mobile games on the basis of current users' habits. The study showed that adults are the most frequent mobile phone gamers.

According to their studies, there are more than 29 million users that play video games on their mobile phones. From them, 7 million download games to their mobile device. The stunning news brought by the study is that most of these are adults and not teenagers, as it was initially thought.

Actually, people that are between 18 and 34 years old are the most frequent mobile games downloaders and players. This age range counts for half of the mobile game regular players, whereas only 41 percent of game players are teens.

In 2006, 29 percent of mobile games were downloaded by consumers aged 25 to 34. They were followed by those aged 18 to 24 with 27 percent, and teens between the ages of 13 and 17 with 15 percent.

The truth behind the facts is that most phone subscribers are adults, thus making it clear why the number of mobile downloads and game play is higher in this age range. NPD also compared the share of game downloads to the share of subscribers in each age group, revealing that teenagers are actually most likely to download games.

"While it's true that adults currently control the lion's share of mobile game downloads and play, as more teens enter the mobile subscriber base we'll see these numbers start to reach parity." , said Anita Frazier, industry analyst, The NPD Group.
