Open Arena, a game based on the Quake III engine and which is eerie similar with Quake 3 Arena, has been officially launched for Raspberry Pi.

The Raspberry Pi Foundation has approved Open Arena to appear on their official store and have chosen to give it an Adult rating due to its contents.

According to the developers, Open Arena is a free, network enabled, multiplayer, first-person shooter based on the ioquake3 fork of the id tech 3 engine.

Open Arena features a lot of game types, including the traditional deathmatch, and sports a varied cast of characters.

More importantly, the game is free and everyone who meets the criteria will be able to play it right away. We can only hope that more complex games will be ported or developed for the Raspberry Pi in the near future.
