In a context in which the marriage equality fight is picking up speed more than ever and public figures are asked to choose sides, athletes included, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson says that he doesn’t believe in it.

Speaking with Sirius XM NFL Radio, Peterson didn’t dodge the question, Scout of Fox Sports reports.

Instead, he honestly said that he didn’t believe in gay marriage, stressing that he wouldn’t oppose it either.

In other words, to each his own

“To each his own, (but) I’m not with it,” he said.

“I have relatives that are gay. I’m not biased towards them. I still treat them the same. I love them. But, again, I’m not with that. That’s not something I believe in. But to each his own,” he added.

In April, Jason Collins came out in an open letter in Sports Illustrated, becoming America’s first openly gay male pro athlete.
