Should good old Santa Claus happen to be on the market for a new companion, he need not look any further than Stone Zoo in Massachusetts.

This is because, as of April 27, this facility in the United States is home to an adorable reindeer calf which was born on said date to mother Holly and father Cornelius.

Vets and caretakers who have had the chance to examine the reindeer calf say that it is a male, and that, despite having virtually no experience being a mom, Holly is doing a very good job looking after it.

“Holly is a protective first-time mother and she is being very attentive to her newborn calf,” said the current President and CEO of Zoo New England, John Linehan.

“The baby has been standing and walking, and he is nursing well. Visitors are going to take great delight in watching this baby grow up,” he added, as cited by Zoo Borns.

For the time being, the newborn reindeer calf tips the scale at just 15 pounds (6.8 kilograms), and keepers say that it still has a lot of growing up to do before it can look its mom directly in the eyes.

The reindeer family is closely monitored, and caretakers say that they will continue to keep tabs on what the reindeer calf and its parents are up to every moment of the day for at least a while longer.
