Adobe Systems Inc. has released two updates for users of Photoshop CS4 and Photoshop Elements 6: Camera Raw 5.3 update and Photoshop Lightroom 2.3. Users are encouraged to download the new releases using the links provided below.

Camera Raw 5.3 updates the Camera Raw plug-in and replaces the original plug-in that was installed with Adobe Creative Suite 4, Adobe Photoshop CS4, and Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 software. The update adds support for two cameras, namely the Nikon D3X and the Olympus E-30. Readers are encouraged to visit the Camera Raw page for a complete list of supported cameras.

Notes

The Camera Raw 5.3 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than Photoshop CS4 or versions of Photoshop Elements earlier than Photoshop Elements 6. Also note that incorrect installation will prevent Adobe Bridge and Camera Raw 5.3 from reading raw images correctly.

Photoshop Lightroom 2.3 has a few enhancements of its own. Those include additional camera support for the Nikon D3X and the Olympus E-30, as well as several corrections for issues introduced by the Lightroom 2.0 release. More details can be found in the Lightroom 2.3 readme file that comes with the update.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.3 system requirements include: PowerPC G4 or G5 or Intel processor; Mac OS X v10.4-10.5; 1GB of RAM; 1GB of available hard-disk space; 1,024x768 monitor resolution; CD-ROM drive.

For computers with previous versions of Lightroom currently installed, users must download the Lightroom 2.3 update, open the folder, double-click the updater file, and follow the onscreen instructions. Those who haven't yet used Lightroom on their systems do not need to install any previous versions of Lightroom before installing Lightroom 2.3. Note that Lightroom 2.3 will automatically replace earlier Lightroom versions in your Applications folder.
