On Thursday, Adobe announced a new flavor of its Adobe Reader application for devices powered by Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 operating system.

Compatible with all Windows Phone 7.5 devices, the new software release comes as version 10.1 and packs a nice range of fixes and improvements inside.

Adobe Reader has been available for Windows Phone 7 for a while now, yet some bugs made it a bit difficult to use at certain times.

Rahul Bansal, product manager, Adobe Reader for Smartphones and Tablets, notes in a blog post that significant improvements have been made to the application’s performance, and that the overall user experience it can deliver should be much better now.

At the same time, the software was packed with various new features inside, which were meant to add some new capabilities into the mix, further enhancing its usability.

One of these is a Panoramic File browser, which enables users to easily list their recently viewed PDF files, or even to have a look at a complete list of all PDF files that are available in Adobe Reader.

Following the update, users will be able to search for words and phrases in a PDF file, and are also offered the possibility to select text and then copy and paste it in other applications.

One other appealing feature that Adobe has packed inside the new Adobe Reader 10.1 for Windows Phone 7 is the option to navigate using Bookmarks in a PDF document.

“If there are bookmarks available, you will see an icon on lower right hand corner of the document. Clicking that icon will display the bookmarks in this document. Tapping on a bookmark will bring you to the right location in the document,” Rahul Bansal explains.

“You can also navigate to any page quickly using the Page Scrubber at the bottom of the display. Just tap and drag the Scrubber, and you’ll be shown thumbnails of the pages, so you can identify and go directly to the page you are looking for.”

Adobe Reader 10.1 for Windows Phone 7 also provides users with the ability to open password protected documents on their devices.

Support for PDF portfolios was also included in the new release by offering a list of all of the contents in the portfolio, and enabling users to tap to open and view the documents there.

Adobe Reader for Windows Phone can be found in the Marketplace on this page. The new release might need a few days before showing up, so be patient.
