Today, at the 3GSM World Congress, Adobe Systems Incorporated announced that support for video will be integrated in the next generation of Adobe Flash Lite software, an award winning Flash Player that was specifically designed for mobile phones.

Flash Lite 3 will bring the Adobe Flash Player video format onto mobile phones and will be available in the first half of the year. The software will enable operators, manufacturers and developers to deliver more engaging experiences to mobile users.

"Video support in Flash Lite will revolutionize the way users engage with mobile content and open up new revenue opportunities for developers worldwide," said Al Ramadan, senior vice president for Mobile and Device Solutions at Adobe. "This release will allow users to view vibrant video content from popular Internet sites like YouTube or MySpace and enable developers to create new, dynamic applications across a variety of mobile and consumer electronics platforms."

Flash Lite is available for several platforms including Symbian S60 and Microsoft Windows Mobile 5, in addition to the embedded OS on a variety of OEM platforms, which allows content delivery across several device types, broader distribution of content and easier publishing, testing and selling of the content for developers.

The software for mobile will support the same video formats supported by Adobe Flash Player and will directly support video streams that are delivered by the Adobe Flash Media Player Server.

Users will be able to view a broad spectrum of content, including videos that can be viewed in different forms with the Flash environment. Flash Lite reduces shipment costs up to five times faster than competing solutions and at the moment, over 200 million Flash-enabled devices have shipped worldwide.

Adobe Flash Lite 3, that will include video playback capabilities, is expected to be released to manufacturers in the first half of 2007 and compatible devices will be available by the end of this year.
