The mobile version of Adobe’s flagship photo editing software, Photoshop Touch, is borrowing a tool from its desktop counterpart in the latest version available for iPhone and iPad. A number of crashing bugs have been addressed as well, among other things.

Adobe promotes the mobile Photoshop app saying, “Transform your images with core Adobe Photoshop features in an app designed for tablets. Combine images, apply professional effects, share results with friends and family through Facebook and Twitter – all from the convenience of your iPad.”

The brief description clearly doesn’t do it justice, as Photoshop Touch does so much more. It lets you employ popular features like layers, selection tools, adjustments, and filters, all designed for the touch-screen, offers the ability to use the device’s built-in camera to fill an area on a layer, and includes the Scribble Selection tool that lets you select part of an image to extract by scribbling.

Refine Edge allows users to capture hard-to-select image elements, like hair, using their fingertips, while ambitious creatives can work on high-resolution images and maintaining the highest image quality (up to 12 megapixels).

Photoshop Touch has built-in step-by-step tutorials that let you learn techniques used by pros, offers integrated Google Image Search, AirPrint for wireless printing of Photoshop Touch projects, automatic sync with the Adobe Creative Cloud (when it feels like working), and lets you import open layered files from Adobe Photoshop Touch in Photoshop CS6 or Photoshop CS5.1.

Users who download Photoshop Touch get free membership to Creative Cloud with 2GB allotted cloud storage and desktop sync.

Adobe Photoshop Touch version 1.6 adds great new features on top of all this, including more brush types for fine-tuned corrections and painting, auto-recovery of unsaved documents, the Quick Selection tool ported from Photoshop desktop, and fixes for two crashing bugs when syncing and when storage is low.

The update further adds the ability to use iOS fonts with the Type tool and an option to keep the original EXIF metadata when editing a JPEG. Other fixes are also included. The software supports English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish.

Adobe Photoshop Touch requires only iOS 5.0 to run. Hardware-wise, Adobe says to use iPad 2 or higher, iPhone 4S or higher, and iPod touch fifth-generation. The app is not universal, meaning customers must download a separate app for iPhone and iPad.
