Adobe has unveiled the latest update to its consumer-friendly photo editing software, Adobe Photoshop Elements 10. This marks the 10-year anniversary of Photoshop's younger brother.

Over the years, it's gained more features from the professional version, but it's still aimed at regular users trying to fix up their vacation photos rather than designers or photographers.

The latest release boast new features and capabilities and is now available for purchase, at least in the US, though a trial version is not available at this point on all operating systems supported, Windows and Mac.

"Celebrating a 10-year history as well as a landmark 10th release, Photoshop Elements 10 is a showcase for innovation and expands the incredible things our customers can do with their photos," Winston Hendrickson, vice president of Digital Imaging Products at Adobe, said.

"The new intelligent feature set and automated functionality in Photoshop Elements allow photo enthusiasts to elevate everyday photos from good to great," he added.

On the editing front, Photoshop Elements 10 comes with 30 new filters, there are now 100 in total. There's a new Guided Edit tool which enables you to adjust a photo or add the effect you want through a step-by-step process.

The Elements Organizer, an image recognition tool, can now find duplicate or similar images to make it easier to manage hundreds or thousands of photos. There is also a new Object Search, a visual search tool which will find objects inside photos.

Seeing as how most photos eventually end up online, be it on Facebook or on dedicated sites such as Flickr, Photoshop Elements 10 has built-in sharing. The visual recognition tool can detect faces and you can tag the people in the photos using your Facebook friends list.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 sells for $99.99, or 73 Euro, and you can upgrade from any previous version for $79.99, or 58.5 Euro. Adobe also included a cloud component, dubbed Plus, which offers 20 GB of cloud storage for sharing and is available for $49.99, or 36.5 Euro, per year but only in the US.
