Adobe released a security update for its Shockwave Player, covering up four major security holes that could have allowed an attacker to execute a malicious code on a machine.

The 11.6.1.692 version contained critical vulnerabilities both on Windows and Macintosh platforms so the company released the 11.6.3.633 variant which fixes them all.

The patched weaknesses included memory corruption vulnerabilities in the DIRapi library and multiple potential memory corruption flaws in the TextXtra module, all of which could have easily lead to arbitrary code execution.

Adobe customers are advised to update their software to the latest version to make sure their devices are protected, especially since the platform is highly targeted by hackers due to the fact that its systems seek out rich media content on the web.
