Adobe Flex Builder is now available as an alpha build for Linux, and it can be used to create Flex projects, write code with intellisense-like hinting compile and debug all within an Eclipse-based IDE. This version is officially supported by Adobe.

This edition is based on some features from Flex Builder 3 (codename "Moxie") and is a plugin-only version of it. Some of its main features are: project creation, code hints, code coloring, compilation, the Ajax Bridge, Find All References and of course, debugging.

The application's installer creates a script called Adobe_Flex_builder.sh in the install directory. The user can run this script to launch Eclipse.

To run Adobe Flex Builder on your Linux machine, you must have Sun Java Runtime Environment version 1.5.x and Eclipse 3.3. Also, it supports only three major distributions: Ubuntu 7.04, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 and RedHat Enterprise Linux WS 4. Maybe soon some other distributions will be included. The only Internet browser supported Flex Builder is Firefox with all its versions. You should have installed the debug version of Flash Player for Linux to support debugging applications from within Flex Builder Linux alpha.
