Adobe Flash Player and Adobe AIR would be optimized and tailored to the OMAP mobile application platform, Adobe and Texas Instruments announced on April 1, 2009. The manufacturers and developers expect a pre-release of Adobe Flash Player 10 in mid-2009 and a production release in the first quarter of 2010.

Through the partnership, Texas Instruments will support Flash-enabling manufacturers to offer enhanced web browsing on OMAP-powered devices. The company is also prepared to embrace Adobe Flash with the Zoom OMAP34x-II Mobile Development Platform (MDP), allowing developers to create Flash content for a variety of markets. A great example is that the use of OMAP platform’s hardware acceleration capabilities enhances video and graphics performance at lower power consumption.

David Wadhwani, the general manager and vice president of Platform Business Unit at Adobe, said, “Adobe Flash is the leading platform for rich applications, content, and video on the web today and this collaboration is an important step towards bringing web content and complete Internet experiences to mobile devices.” He also mentioned that, “Mobile users expect to access their favorite content anywhere, at any time, and much of that content is based on Adobe Flash technology. The work with TI on the OMAP platform and the Zoom OMAP34x-II MDP will help deliver these rich experiences to a new range of devices, including smartphones and MIDs, worldwide.”

The CEO and founder of Archos, Henri Crohas, stated, “Archos has always led the way in providing an uncompromised web browsing experience on its Internet Media Tablets.” He further stated, “As Flash based videos and content keep on dominating the web, Archos will support again the latest Adobe Flash technology on its 2009 devices, leveraging TI’s OMAP platform.”

Remi El-Ouazzane, the vice president and general manager for TI's OMAP Platform Business Unit, added that TI had a strong background and a tradition of offering devices with Flash technology. In this regard, the company jumped at the chance to build Adobe Flash Player 10 into its devices as well as add Adobe AIR to its portfolio for OMAP.
