Adobe Brings Flash Lite 3 for Mobile Phones

- Opens the door for more possibilities

By: Elena Balan, Communications News Editor

The new Flash Lite 3 has just been released to bring mobile phone Internet browsing one step closer to what PCs have to offer. This new software from Adobe will make it possible for developers to create more evolved applications and make the mobile experience more engaging then ever.

Mobile phones will be able from now
on to watch Flash Player compatible video, the world's most popular video format, and browse Flash enabled Web sites when integrated with a mobile Web browser. Opera Mobile, version 8.65, has just been released with support for Flash applications. This is the most highly used browser for mobile phones out there, which gives great reasons to hope for a fast expansion of this device on the market.

Adobe Flash Lite runs on multiple platforms, including S60 on Symbian OS, second and third edition, Qualcomm BREW 2.x/3.x and Microsoft Windows Mobile 5, in addition to embedded operating systems on a variety of OEM platforms. Flash Lite 3 more closely replicates the desktop experience delivered by Adobe Flash Player and brings a great boost to what the wireless industry stands for.

"With Flash Lite 3 and its support for video, we’ve passed a major milestone in bringing a desktop experience to mobile and transforming the wireless industry", said Al Ramadan, senior vice president for Mobile and Devices at Adobe. "Today, mobile users experience amazing Flash based user interfaces and applications with handsets like the LG Prada, the LG Chocolate or the Samsung D900. With Flash Lite 3, tomorrow’s devices will offer even richer, more engaging experiences", he further added.

There are more than 300 million Flash-enabled mobile devices and handsets out there now. Because of this, Adobe has good reasons to expect more than one billion Flash-enabled devices to be available by 2010.
