Adobe Systems Inc. has announced Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac OS X and Windows. Immediately available for Windows and scheduled for an October release on the Mac, Photoshop Elements 8 continues to provide a cutting-edge, automated and intelligent, photo-editing technology, according to the people behind Flash.

“With nearly 20 years of Photoshop innovation under our belt, we are able to leverage industry-leading technology that the professionals use and make it accessible to our Elements customers,” Doug Mack, vice president and general manager of Consumer and Hosted Solutions at Adobe, said. “We've simplified the editing process, without taking away any of the power, and incorporated smart tools with built-in intelligence to bring once difficult tasks, within reach of everyone.”

Touted as the perfect complement to iPhoto for consumers who want to go beyond the basics, Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac is coming this October packed full of new options to make breathtaking photos. Mac users will also have access to all the features in the Adobe Bridge CS4 software, for those working in media management, enjoying quick organization and a custom viewing workspace. The new software is also adding keyword tags and a variety of new search options.

Also confirmed by Adobe is that Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac now includes all of the intelligent, photo-editing options available on the Windows side. Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac now features Scene Cleaner, Smart Brush and Touch-Up brushes, in addition to Photomerge Exposure, Recompose and Quick Fix previews.

While Windows PC users can grab the new software right away, Mac owners will have to pay and wait until October to acquire the US$99.99 Photoshop Elements 8. Retail outlets including Amazon.com, Best Buy, Office Depot and Office Max will be carrying both versions of the software soon. Apple’s online store will soon feature Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac as well, for US$99.99.
