The number of languages officially supported for the Facebook Platform has grown to three with the addition of ActionScript to PHP and JavaScript. Through a collaboration between Adobe and Facebook, web developers will now be able to leverage the Adobe ActionScript 3.0 Client Library for Facebook Platform API introduced at the Web 2.0 Expo San Francisco 2009. The two companies indicated that the library was designed to drive the next generation of social applications. ActionScript 3.0 Client Library for Facebook Platform is already up for grabs, along with accompanying resources, including documentation.

“Our vision is to empower the world's developers to make the Web more social with Facebook Platform and through Facebook Connect,” explained Ethan Beard, director of platform marketing, Facebook. “With our official support of the ActionScript 3.0 Client Library for Facebook Platform, our innovative community of developers can more easily use the Adobe Flash Platform to create the next generation of applications that will allow users to engage with the people they care about in even more expressive ways.”

ActionScript 3.0 Client Library for Facebook Platform API is available for download, offered as a free and open-source programming language library. The release comes to support developers of rich social web applications involving Flash, Flex and AIR for Facebook that had to turn to unofficial libraries in order to build their content so far. The two companies informed that the new client library was set up to play nice with all Facebook application programming interfaces (APIs), and even Facebook Connect.

“Combining social functionality with the Adobe Flash Platform gives the millions of Flash developers the tools to create Web experiences that are truly differentiated,” added Bryant Macy, director of product marketing for the Platform Business Unit at Adobe. “Flash developers are already creating great applications for Facebook, and the new ActionScript 3.0 Client Library for Facebook Platform will accelerate the pace of social innovation on the Web.”
