One of the best-selling albums of 2012 is Taylor Swift’s “Red,” which also won over the critics. However, it’s not number one when it comes to copies moved because that honor goes to Adele for the second year in a row.

The songbird’s record breaking “21” album, which was released in 2011, has topped the charts in 2012 as well, officially making Adele the biggest star to come out in recent years.

“Adele's ‘21,’ released in the US in February 2011 by XL/Columbia, is the top-selling album of the year for the second year running,” the LA Times informs.

“Adele's Grammy-winning set sold 4.41 million copies in 2012, according to Nielsen SoundScan stats released by industry trade Billboard. The album in 2011 sold 5.82 million copies, giving it a to-date number well over 10 million,” adds the same media outlet.

For those who don’t consider themselves fans of Adele, suffice it to say that she managed to sell all these copies without as much as doing promotion for the album in the traditional sense: Adele spent most of 2012 out of the spotlight, focusing on her new romance and newborn baby.

Now that’s staying power!
