Adele on Her Weight: I Make Music for the Ears, Not for the Eyes

British singer Adele is breaking record after record with her latest album, “21,” and she couldn’t care less what people are saying about her weight. Or, as she says in her extensive interview for Rolling Stone, she makes music for the ears, not for the eyes.

At just 23, Adele is definitely one of the hottest young artists of the moment. She’s also incredibly successful and has a special relationship with her fans because she’s the exact opposite of what we understand by pop star: she’s honest, she’s not picture-perfect, she’s funny and she’s relatable.

Speaking of her weight and how some have picked on it, saying she could stand to lose a few, Adele fights back: why should she? She loves fine foods and even finer wine, and she hates going to the gym.

“My life is full of drama and I won’t have time to worry about something as petty as what I look like,” Adele says for the music magazine.

“I don’t like going to the gym. I like eating fine foods and drinking nice wine. Even if I had a really good figure, I don’t think I’d get my [breasts] and [backside] out for no one,” she says with conviction.

Of course, she doesn’t mean by that that those pop stars who place a lot of emphasis on looks are doing something wrong, or that Adele hates them for doing so.

It’s simply not her style, she underlines.

“I love seeing Lady Gaga’s [breasts] and bum,” she says, trying to dispel the impression that she was criticizing or judging all those other female singers who dress in more provocative ways.

“I love seeing Katy Perry’s [breasts] and bum. Love it. But that’s not what my music is about. I don’t make music for eyes. I make music for ears,” Adele adds.

Indeed, if there’s anything to set Adele apart from other female performers, that’s not the fact that she’s curvier or her refusal to play the sensual card: it’s her voice and her music that make her different.

See the video below to be convinced.

I don't believe weight should be judged, but we have to understand media has a lot to do with it, even plus size models do not resemble real people!

I see that Adele is stunning! It's bizarre that sizism is still ok in our society. Size is related to power and Adele is powerful, her presence, voice, lyrics and her connection to the audience. In a non manipulated world no one would even be so ridiculous as to comment on her size at all.

Adele's additude about her weight is the absolutely wonderful, her body is just beautiful as her voice! Her curves are beautiful.. And so is the fact that she is not conforming to look like the people in magazines or on t.v. She doesn't feel the need to be what everyone else wants her to be.. She knows exactly who she is and doesn't quit care what the media has to say about it! That is why I love Adele that is what makes her my idol! That's what makes her beautiful.

She is so wonderful. I'm so glad SOMEONE in life is more concerned with enjoying it than spending it trying to achieve the "perfect" look. Thank god.

I am sick of people trying to tie success to how starved they appear! Look, we have had a full two decades of scantily-clad, toothpicked size girls whose lack of vocal powers were masked by pushing their boobs out and slithering on the floor like strippers! And you wonder why your young daughters look like they're working the streets? I was so happy that Adele came along to herald the comeback of the singer/songwriter and put some decency, real talent, and "music" to the music industry again.

Anyone who tells this woman that she's doing something wrong and needs to lose weight needs to examine their own self. To sit in that kind of judgment on one of the most incredibly talented artists of her generation, YOU would most decidedly be the one who's wrong and needing to be adjusted.

Love hearing this, love it. I am so tired of someone losing their recognition as an artist because of the way they look, it's just not right. Adele has an amazing, beautiful voice. I don't care what she looks like because she sings with skill and passion.

I'm not quite much into Pop, but if I ever had to say I like Pop, it'd be because of Adele, she's one of the few Pop artists that get you with their music and to me, she's pretty much the only Pop artist that doesn't make plastic music, like many others.

I could care less how a musician looks, just as long as their music is amazing like Adele's.

She's really not that fat; she just looks fat compared to all the celebrities who are too skinny.
