Singer's attorney says reports are false, “grossly defamatory”

Adele fans can breathe easy: she's not the woman in photos published in a French tabloid, purported to be lifted from a very intimate and, as such, embarrassing video. She's also taking the mag to court.

The scandal reached a climax yesterday, when Public, the French tab, released an online preview of its printed version.

It claimed, among other things, that paparazzo Jean Claude Elfassi had obtained very compromising footage of the Grammy-winning singer, which would be revealed within hours, as we also informed you.

It also said that the footage had been shot with a camera phone a few years back and that it was being released / “leaked” by Adele's ex, who was thus trying to get revenge for their bitter split, which also happens to have inspired her critical and commercial hit album “21.”

According to Adele's attorney, said footage doesn't exist. It was never shot. The person in stills pictured on the cover of the tab is not Adele, so they'll be taking matters to court.

“Our client has not appeared in a tape as claimed in the article. Our client does not appear in the photographs,” attorneys from Schillings say in a statement, as cited by the Daily Mail.

“Such claims are untrue and grossly defamatory. Our client is taking legal action in relation to this matter,” the statement further says.

Adele has not addressed the so-called controversy in any way but, at this point, it's safe to say she's letting her lawyers do all the talking for her.

The entire scandal was based on the fact that Adele never named the ex who inspired the heartbreaking “21” album – and never really went into great details of the ill-fated romance either.

However, in her latest interview with Vogue, she did say that the man deserved some credit, even if he broke her heart and killed her dreams.

“You know, he was amazing. He was great. But it was never going to work. [N]ow, after some time, it only seems right that the person who so far has had the biggest impact on me – has now changed my life for [expletive]-ing ever with this album – deserves a little credit,” she said.

“I can do things that I never dreamed I’d be able to do. If I hadn’t met him, I think I’d still be that little girl I was when I was eighteen. And the best thing is, I now know what I want for myself and from someone else. I didn’t know what I wanted before,” Adele added.

As of now, the French tab stands by its initial claims.
