Really a sort of 2.5-inch adapter for flash memory cards

Addonics put together a certain drive kit solution, really a family of such solutions, that is something along the lines of a memory card adapter, or an adapter for more than one memory card.

The name of Addonics 2.5-inch Flash Drive has got to be among the most confusing of them all.

After all, 'flash drive' is what everyone calls those small, stick-like products that have Flash memory and plug into USB ports.

The product from Addonics retains the flash memory part, in a way, but not the USB side.

Instead, it is used internally in a desktop, like any other 2.5-inch SATA drive.

Thus far, one cannot really notice much out of the ordinary, but there is a reason the Flash Drive can only 'in a way' be considered to live up to its title.

Simply put, it has no storage space of its own and, instead, is actually supposed to hold flash memory cards.

Indeed, Addonics made a 2.5-inch adapter that takes memory cards and has the PC use them as though they were an SSD.

Three different models exist, with support for CF (CompactFlash), CFast media and, though they don't really qualify as flash cards per se, mSATA SSDs, respectively.

This is definitely not an ordinary storage solution, but it does make some sense if one were to think about it for a while.

CF cards and the like are used by high-end cameras, even professional ones, but no one actually uses those things 24/7.

Also, there are high-end flash cards with storage capacity rivaling that of full-fledged solid state drives.

Thus, during the times when the professional image and video shooting apparatuses stay unused in their boxes, it doesn't hurt to have a clean way of connecting the card to a PC as through it were a SATA drive.
