Keeping one's personal data safe at all times is an extremely important task, especially when said pieces of information have quite a sensitive nature, and this is exactly where the new External CipherChain from Addonics comes into play.

So, what we're talking about here is a full disk hardware encryption product designed to enable a very high level of security for all external storage solutions equipped with eSATA or SATA interfaces (fret not, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 connectivity is also enabled, via a dedicated adapter).

The device from Addonics works in a very simple manner, one that doesn't really require constant attention from the user, the CipherChain doing all the encryption work on the fly, in real time.

So, what users will have to do is connect their eSATA or SATA device to the Addonics CiperChain, that, in its turn, gets connected to a host computer via an eSATA interface.

Then, they'll simply have to insert the Cipher Key that comes with the CipherChain into the device, and the “pass-through encryption machine” will start automatically encrypting and decrypting the data.

It's also important to point out that the new accessory from Addonics is OS-independent, meaning that it will work quite well regardless of the type of computer system it's connected to.

Last, but certainly not least, we'll have to mention that the CipherChain employs 256-bit encryption that encodes the boot sector, partition table and all the information in the drive.

Practically, should the drive happen to be stolen, it will appear as empty, although the data won't be actually affected (in the case that the stolen HDD eventually gets retrieved).

Pricing for the Addonics CipherChain has been set at around 95 US dollars, which is actually not that bad a price point, especially taking into account the advanced level of data security such a solution is capable of providing.
