Photosynth App for iPhone, iPod and iPad proves that innovative software can easily make great hardware even better.

Users of Apple iOS devices can download the mobile flavor of Photosynth and add panorama capturing capabilities as well as sharing functionality spanning across Microsoft’s decision engine, Photosynth hub and the world’s top social network.

According to the software giant, Photosynth App can be downloaded on iPhone 4, iPhone 3Gs, iPod Touch Fourth Generation, and the iPad 2 (iOS 4.1).

Even if a picture is worth 1,000 words it’s still not capable of reproducing a complete visual experience in the mind of the viewer. A panorama on the other hand is.

This is also because of the way that the Photosynth App was designed to work. iPhone, iPod and iPad owners can put together immersive panoramas by having new images they capture stitched or synthed together right on the spot.

Unlike the original Photosynth application, the iOS Photosynth App doesn’t work with a collection of images, but instead creates the panorama one image at the time, as soon as the user points the device camera and snaps a new picture.

Essentially, the panorama is built by stitching each new image to the ones already in place, taking shape gradually. In this manner once the last image has been captured, the panorama is complete and users can immediately explore the result.

“With the app, you can process, view, and store your panoramas directly on your device. Then, share them in a variety of ways, including to Facebook as images or as interactive panoramas (hosted for free) on Photosynth.net,” revealed Eric Bennett, Senior Program Manager, Bing’s Photosynth Team.

In addition, the content can be published “to Bing Maps for the opportunity to see your panoramas on the map (Using the Bing Maps Photosynth map app) or with Bing local business listings See images of your panoramas automatically saved to the device Camera Roll,” Bennett added.

Later this year Microsoft will also port Photosynth App to Windows Phone, but an availability deadline wasn’t provided at this point in time.
