"The fish knows" (Iggy Pop)

Have you ever played your acoustic guitar on a PA and gotten the exact sound you were expecting or looking for? If the answer is "yes", then you're one lucky person. If the answer is "no" (and most likely this is the most common answer to the question) maybe it's time you change some gear. Not necessarily your guitar, but the way you pick up your sound and send it to the mixer/PA.

Fishman know one or two things about guitars and sound, that's a fact. In fact, it looks like they know a lot: their recent release proves it fully. The device I'm talking about is the Ellipse Aura and at the first, superficial look it might seem like an ordinary, 10 bucks acoustic guitar onboard preamp. Well, since we're speaking about it I assume you've already guessed it's not!

The Ellipse Aura is the marvelous result of the research put up by Fishman for developing better gear and their already patented Acoustic Imaging Technology that allows acoustic guitars to retain their exact sound even when pumped through the largest and most sophisticated PAs.

Ellipse Aura sports a micro USB port via which you can download up to 4 acoustic imaging algorithms to suite the tonal characteristics of your guitar: even more, you will not rely on the digital only, as the Aura will allow you to blend in and mix between the sound of the "image" and what's coming from the pickup. Ah, and using the solder-free Acoustic Matrix undersaddle pickup will make everything better since it has been developed in full compliance with the Aura and it comes in both wide and narrow formats.

The system will accommodate perfectly in almost any acoustic guitar as it has been specced from the start to fit in soundholes varying between 98 and 105 mm, most commonly met in the acoustic guitar world.

The price may be a little prohibitive at first sight as spending $ 399.95 on the acoustic imaging system might be looked at as a rather not-that-burning acquisition. Nevertheless, if you are a discerning guitarist who needs and wants its beloved instrument sound as closer to life-like standards as possible, the Fishman Ellipse Aura may easily be simply the best choice.
