The new Sandler movie that opened recently in all cinemas is, despite its cast of relatively good actors, a disappointment for aficionados of the genre.
Director Frank Coraci couldn't have expected anything else from the man who has given live to 'Happy Gilmore' than to provide two hours of fun and... well, just that. Unfortunately, 'Click' is at one point even boring as the jokes and gags continue to repeat each after another and the movie brings nothing new to a theme that has already been exploited to the maximum.
Sandler is a workaholic young architect, married and proud father of two children who seems too blind and caught up in his job to stop and take notice of all the good things that surround him. Predictably, at one point, he meets an eccentric character who offers him the gift of life in the shape of a universal remote control that makes Sandler's life manageable, just like a DVD. Sounds familiar yet? (If not, think of 'Bruce Almighty'.) The architect obviously starts using the remote for personal purposes until the moment he realizes that he missed almost a decade of his own life and decides to make things right again.
The plot may be familiar to everybody, but the acting is even more cliché. There is no justification for the 'gift', the architect (whom the viewer is to consider a gentle, good, but mislead person) is basically selfish and self centered, the wife is merely a beautiful presence, the morale or punch line is unsupported by the rest of the movie. It's all just a big blah, blah...
We were talking about the 'Click' major cast. We have, besides Adam Sandler, the beautiful Kate Beckinsale (that may be just wasting herself on such a useless lame comedy), David Hasselhoff, Sean Austin and Cristopher Walken. Still, there is almost no point in throwing your money away on it...
