Over the weekend, news broke that Adam Lambert had gotten physical with a paparazzo at the beach, resulting in the photographer pressing battery charges against him. In a new interview, the singer explains exactly what happened.
The incident got a lot of media attention not only because of Adam’s incredible appeal to the general public but also because he never came across as the type of guy who would do that.
In fact, as we also noted on a previous occasion, he seems the exact opposite of that, the kind of star that would gladly spend lots of time signing autographs and posing for pictures.
Because many media outlets and blogs sided with the pap and charged on Adam saying “you’re a star, so just smile pretty and pose for pics,” the singer himself is speaking out on the controversy.
After tweeting about it and setting the record straight with his fans, Adam sat down with Nick and Nina from Y100 and honestly answered the question of what really went down that day at the beach.
As he puts it, it wasn’t like he wasn’t a good sport with the paparazzi, who had somehow found out where he was and had gathered to snap his picture.
Come to think of it, Adam did more than many other celebs in his place would have done, namely, he agreed to have his picture taken for about 45 minutes if not even more, after which he asked the photographers to quietly go away.
Adam says he understands it’s all part of the game, which is why he didn’t mind having his photo taken in the first place – not that he could have done anything about it, after all.
However, all he wanted to do was to have a bite to eat, a pina colada and some fun times at the beach with a friend, on his day off. “This isn’t a photoshoot,” he says of how his outfit should have been clear indication he was in no mood to sit for pictures.
Eventually, after asking and asking, he grew tired of it and got up to leave, telling them, “Yeah, guys, thank you for ruining my day at the beach.”
One paparazzo, though, would still not stop from taking pictures, constantly getting up in Lambert’s face and trying to provoke him by hurling insults at him (though Adam wouldn’t say what these were).
For a moment, the singer lost his cool and went for the photographer, trying to take his camera away from him – but it was more harmless fun than a proper fight, he insists.
Six hours later, the paparazzo went to the police to tell how he’d been assaulted, punched and wrestled to the ground by Adam, which never happened.
Below is Adam Lambert explaining the recent incident at the beach with a nosy paparazzo. Listen and judge for yourselves.
When Adam does something wonderful like raising money for charity or putting on an awesome sold out concert, it gets little attention. Something like this gets blown out of proportion and goes viral everywhere. I think Adam was completely justified in what he did. Seven photogs taking pictures for almost an hour is nuts.
The paps clearly crossed the line here... Adam allowed them to take Pictures for a while but clearly the paps were gunning for a scandal so they kept taunting him untill he finally snapped. And now that scumbag of a pap decided to milk the incident further by telling lies to the Police! He surely will demand money next!
Lowlifes...
I am wondering how long it will take before we have some strict laws regarding the often pushy, dangerous, paparazzi that hound celebrities. Yes it comes with the turf TO A DEGREE. But as we saw with Princess Diana - people can be pushed too far. For celebrities to have to flee to have just a moment of peace and quiet seems absurd. If the celebrity is on the red carpet or a premier - that's one thing - but to have someone stand in front of your face for 45 minutes and then still not leave you alone? I think Adam Lambert should file a harassment charge against this blood hound of a photographer- enjoy a hefty fine and some jail time paparazzi!
You go Adam.
Your always soooo nice and I am sorry that making it so big comes with a terrible pricetag
NOT FAIR AT ALL!

Why can't they have an 25 feet limit.
The cameras all have a zoom!

I can't believe the media is siding with the paparazzi on this one. Poor Adam was obviously trying to take a day off, and his whole outing was ruined when the paparazzi invaded his personal space and started taking photos of him.
A picture is worth a thousand words and, judging by this one, all arguments are in favour of Adam. The paparazzo certainly doesn't look like he's being assaulted, and Adam clearly isn't wrestling him to the ground.
All lies. What some people do for attention. I feel sorry for Adam; this whole incident was a point against him for the media. The guy was only trying to relax at the beach, for goodness' sake.
