Fans were quick to say “Shame on you, ABC” when the network announced that, in light of Adam Lambert’s too controversial performance at this year’s American Music Awards of the weekend, it had to cancel a scheduled concert with him on Good Morning America. CBS was quick to jump at the unexpected opportunity and invited the American Idol contender on The Early Show to explain the AMAs performance and sing live two songs off his brand new album, “For Your Entertainment.”

As E! Online can also confirm and the first video of the three uploaded below, at the end of the article, will show, Adam tried to make no excuses for the performance that many rushed to label the most shameless, tasteless and disgraceful moment on primetime television in recent years. At the same time, neither did he try to downplay the controversy, admitting that he did get a bit too carried away and forgot that there were cameras shooting his every move.

“I admit, I did get carried away. But I don’t see anything wrong with it. I do see how people got offended and that was not my intention. My intention was just to interpret the lyrics to my song and have a good time up there,” Adam says of his performance. However, since the main complaint with it was that many children were watching the show (Lambert closed the awards ceremony at roughly 11 at night), the singer refused to take responsibility for them having been exposed to a type of behavior that was not “appropriate.”

“I’m not a babysitter. I’m a performer. I suppose I could understand why they were upset. And honestly, it didn’t cross my mind – children. It was almost 11, I was there in the audience full of mostly adults. Sometimes I forget, oh, there’s a camera on. I come from the theater and I’m programmed to kind of look at who’s in the live audience and that’s kind of where I come from,” Lambert said. Parents should have been able to tell that the show was not suitable for their kids, Adam said referring to Janet Jackson’s performance, Eminem’s brief speech and Lady Gaga’s theatrical live show, so they should have TiVo’ed the event and see it alone first.

To prove that the AMAs performance could in no way be an indicator of who he was as a singer, Adam Lambert also sang live “Whataya Want from Me” and “Music Again,” showing yet another facet of his very complex onstage persona. At the end of the mini-concert, he also took the time to sign autographs and talk to the fans, much to their delight. Below are videos for Adam’s appearance on The Early Show on CBS. Enjoy.
