Adam Lambert is, without a doubt, one of the most popular and successful American Idol contestants ever and he didn't even win the season he was featured on the show. As such, producers are thinking he would be ideal as judge on the new panel of judges.

Now on hiatus, the show is about to see some drastic changes come next season, assuming it ever happens, says a new report in E! News.

Jennifer Lopez has been dropping hints about not returning for a third year to the judges’ chair and, it would seem, she's already made up her mind of pursuing other projects.

E! News says Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson are not confirmed either, and might actually be let go in a bid to vamp up the show to allow it to better face competitors The Voice and X Factor.

In the meantime, though, producers are thinking Lambert would be just the man for the job: not only is he immensely popular, but he's also compassionate, very articulate and, most importantly, good at what he does.

“What the next season of American Idol will look like is anybody's guess right now. The latest name to be floated around at Fox as a possible new judge is – get ready for it – Idol alum Adam Lambert!” E! News writes.

“They have been talking about Adam for over a month. He personifies the show, and will be a popular choice right from the start,” a well-placed source explains for the e-zine.

“He knows what it's like to be on the receiving end of the judges' comments, he has a human touch, and they know they can't go wrong if they bring him on. He would be able to bring a unique perspective to the show. People love him,” adds the insider.

If producers nab Adam for the part, replacing Lopez, they might also have to find 2 other stars to bring on board: Randy is considered “part of the old Idol,” whereas Tyler is busy with other projects and, for the time being, not certain of his return for another season.

Producer Nigel Lythgoe has recently admitted that the very fate of the show is uncertain at this point, so a new season might as well not happen.

“As of this moment in time, we are still in negotiations as we are with everybody. Everything is up in the air. There will be changes for sure, but nothing that stops it from what it is, which is an out and out talent show,” Lythgoe said.
