MTV snubs Adam Lambert for the 2010 Video Music Awards, fans are extremely unhappy about it

MTV has announced the nominations for this year’s Video Music Awards, which are scheduled to air live on September 12, as we also informed you a few minutes ago. Lady Gaga leads the pack of potential winners with no less than 13 nods, followed by Eminem with 8, Florence and The Machine, Beyonce and Taylor Swift. Notably absent is one of the hottest and most beloved artists of the moment who not only had an album out in time for nominations but it even went platinum and spanned 3 videos: Adam Lambert.

Though it comes as little consolation to his fans, Adam was not the only one that MTV overlooked this year. While Ke$ha got several nods, Rihanna and Britney Spears, again successful artists who have better performances in the charts and with the public that the newcomer, were snubbed. The same goes for Justin Bieber, who, as the Washington Post puts it, has his own 3D movie coming out next year, is the biggest teen sensation since the ‘90s and has a very strong following – yet he gets just one nomination.

However, perhaps the most painful snub is that of Adam, who is undeniably a very talented artist who deserved mention and being acknowledged. “Members of the former American Idol contender’s Glam Nation are ticked off that he didn’t get recognized in at least one category for videos like ‘If I Had You,’ in which he sports a mullet ponytail while rocking out on what appears to be the set for the ‘Twilight’ movies, accompanied by cast members from ‘Moulin Rouge’ and "Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome.’ (I mean that as a compliment, by the way),” the aforementioned publication says.

To show MTV how it has slighted artists it should have considered first and foremost, fans are taking to Twitter, using the tag #MTVFail to vent all their frustrations and speak their mind. Still, all this is futile, the Washington Post goes on to say, because these awards are in no way indicative of an artist’s real worth and how he or she is appreciated by fans. The fans, on the other hand, can’t but agree to that, but the realization still leaves a sour aftertaste and a lingering thought of “yeah, but it’s not right what’s happening…” Several other media outlets (mostly glossy e-zines and celebrity blogs) agree that MTV has put its foot in its mouth by snubbing Adam Lambert.

“Did MTV really mess up with this year’s nominations? Does it even matter? […] Honestly, the VMAs are so ridiculous that it seems like a waste of energy to even bother getting upset by them. That being said, I have just one question: How on God’s green Earth did ‘My First Kiss’ get nominated for anything? It looks like it was made in 1983. And no, I don’t mean that as a compliment,” the WP concludes by saying.
