The other day, American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert came out with the official artwork for his debut studio material, “For Your Entertainment.” The cover showed the singer with blue hair and bathed in purple light against a starry backdrop, which has prompted much talk of being appropriate to be plastered on the side of a bus. Taking to
Twitter, Adam is now answering criticism.
First of all, the flamboyant singer says the cover was never meant to be taken seriously, like some seem to have done. It was designed as an homage to the past – or, as we were also
telling you the other day, as a nod to the tacky ‘80s. Therefore, coming across as ridiculous was what was wanted of it. Those who didn’t understand it, but were nonetheless quick to trash it, might think twice before jumping to conclusions like that next time.
“Thank you to those who appreciate and understand that the album cover is deliberately campy. It’s an omage [sic] to the past. It IS ridiculous. For those that don’t get it: oh well... Glad to have gotten your attention,” Lambert writes on his Twitter page. Fans of the singer are, of course, showing they’re in agreement with what he says, namely that only someone who doesn’t understand it could possibly have something bad to say about it.
Fortunately, the nay-sayers seem to be few in numbers, as we were also telling you the other day. The cover caused a splash the moment it got out online, with some even going as far as saying that it was one of the most terrible and, because of it, the most awesome pieces of album artwork ever created. It also showed that they didn’t call Lambert by the moniker Glambert for nothing, as he seemed determined to push the boring and the standardized out of the picture.
“More likely than not, Adam Lambert is actually an alien from a distant planet. Yes, that planet looks a little bit like it resulted from the collision of a Jem cartoon, The Neverending Story, Starlight Express, and K-Tel’s Power Glam Explosion […], but perhaps the extra-terrestrial has come to teach us something? Glam is back. Unicorns are real. And boring people are going to be zapped with giant lasers and turned immediately to dust,” Music-Mix was saying upon the release of the fabulous and incredibly colorful cover.
