Adam Lambert says Susan Boyle’s cover of “Wild Horses” was “horrendous, sacrilegious”

Adam Lambert and Susan Boyle are the two biggest music stars of 2009, both their debut albums moving an impressive number of copies, with Boyle’s “I Dreamed a Dream” even making her the best selling female newcomer in music history. However, if you ask Adam how he feels about the competition, you might be a little disappointed at how little he values the aforementioned album, as ContactMusic can confirm.

Apparently, the American Idol favorite was recently talking to Britain’s Gay Times and the discussion also touched on the subject of Susan Boyle’s debut material, as well as her highly acclaimed cover of Rolling Stones’ classic “Wild Horses.” Both the album and the single are nothing short of hilarious, Adam reportedly said, even adding that the cover made him laugh out loud for how sacrilegious it was and how horrendous it sounded.

“If only it weren’t for Susan Boyle! I’m happy for her success, but that album is terrible. Wild Horses is the one that made me laugh the hardest. I just died when I heard it, I was crying with laughter. It was the most horrendous, sacrilegious treatment of that song! Still, when my album charted, it was validating. I was feeling bit attacked, like I had to vindicate something. I thought: ‘Wow, look what I did’,” the e-zine quotes him as saying.

Even though this report is being circulated as accurate, fans of Adam might not agree. For starters, it is already being said, this doesn’t sound like something that Adam would say: Adam, the same who won over audiences of American Idol for his kind manners and something like a willingness to always please those around him. Moreover, in all the interviews he gave ever since he became internationally famous, not once has Adam shown any signs of being resentful, so why should he have started now with Susan is the question that arises.

That his words were taken out of context is also a possibility, it is also being said. After all, it wouldn’t be a first that a star says something and then is misquoted in the media. This could have also happened to Adam and his statement on Susan Boyle’s “I Dreamed a Dream.” Whether that was the case or not, rest assured you’ll find out about it here.

As an Adam fan who finds herself following his path daily, I found the report of his criticism of Susan Boyle so outrageous and so uncharacteristic of anything that we have ever heard from Adam that I simply cannot believe that it happened as reported. Even in the most difficult circumstances, Adam has consistently maintained personal integrity and discretion in discussing other artists, the media, ABC executives, or "haters" whose blogs have been viscious, and disturbing. He has continually taken ownership of his actions, and not blamed anyone in the aftermath of the AMAs, while many artists would have been disparaging and critical of those who have canceled his appearances or otherwise impaired airplay of his music. He has even commented that while he is an Idol fan, he doesn't watch the show until after the open auditions are over because he doesn't like to see the painful experience for those rejected and how they are subjected to being made fun of. He has consistently been supportive of other artists and in the case of Suan Boyle, it would seem so out of character for him to denegrate here album or the magic of her dream-come-true miracle.
So....I gotta hear a lot more about all this before I believe that he would be hurtful. I just don't believe it's in him.

he tweeted that 'though he was misquoted' he is entitled to his opinion.' so that tells us he did say something negative about SB's albulm. And he won't say what he said, he just says he was misquoted. My question is, on what? the 'terrible cd' part, or the 'horrendous and sacreligous rendition of WH' part? And lately he has been, lets just say less then kind. Almost petty. A couple of weeks ago he dissed Clay Aikans, again. I heard him on the radio say he was 'icck'. So he's changing. Fame does that sometimes. Maybe he thinks his big enough now that he can show his true colors.

On "Wild Horses", Susan was singing about the death of her mother, whom she had cared for for several years, - a much different interpretation from that of the "Rolling Stones". Adam laughed, Susan cried. Perhaps Adam should think about where other artists are coming from before he judges them. Or, at least keep his negative thoughts to himself.
