Following a couple of very eventful days when he made headlines for reasons he probably would have rather he didn’t have, Adam Lambert returns to Twitter to urge fans to stand up for themselves.

In a few of his most recent tweets, the singer talks about standing up for oneself and calls out the media “bullies” and, while he doesn’t say explicitly what he’s talking about, it’s believed he’s referring to his recent run-in with a pap.

As we also reported at the time, Lambert got into a minor scuffle with a paparazzo after he kept bugging him as he was at the beach with a friend.

After that, Russell Brand got into a similar fight, presumably over a photographer’s intention to shoot up fiancé Katy Perry’s skirt – and was arrested and booked for battery.

Now, Adam says that one has to know and to choose wisely when it’s time to keep one’s mouth shut and when it’s simply the best moment and act.

“There are times one has to put on their blinders, ignore, and think positively, but there are other times when it’s important to stand up for yourself,” he tweeted over the weekend.

Minutes later, he returns with another tweet, this time saying the media mirrors bullying behaviors and becomes a bully as well. Again, he doesn’t say what he’s referring to.

“It’s funny how some folks in the entertainment world echo the fearful ignorance of high school bullies. I suppose jealousy and poor tact are timeless,” Adam says.

“No worries, I’m not upset... Just calling it out,” he adds, as if to put his fans at ease about his state of mind.

One reason for which he may have turned to Twitter to “call it out” could be the fact that the paparazzo with whom he got into the scuffle filed charges against him claiming battery, as we also informed you.

Though pictures taken during the so-called brawl tell an entirely different story from the claims the pap made in his complaint, he insists Adam hurt him by wrestling him to the ground and punching him.

In his own defense, though, Adam says that there is only one crime he’s guilty of and that’s embarrassment – either for getting into the fight in the first place or for that straw hat.

“Battery? Nope. I attempted to grab a camera, no punches were thrown and no one was on the ground... It was literally harmless. If embarrassment is a crime – that’s all I’m guilty of,” Adam tweeted.

*Update [September 21, 2010]: As Opposing Views can confirm, Adam’s comments on Twitter were prompted by anti-gay remarks made on the E! show Daily 10, where host Mike Catherwood said something to the effect, “From what I know about jail, Mr. Lambert probably wouldn’t have too bad a time.” An apology for the offensive remark will be made on the show soon, the same media outlet says.

Thank you to all those who were the first to point this out for us in the comments section.
