AdSense Account Shut Down

- Google has disabled an AdSense account of an anti-Scientology website

By: Traian Teglet, Technology News Editor

The Enturbulation website is known for its continuous criticism against the Church of Scientology and Scientology believers. The website receives its earnings from user donations and advertisements placed on
their site. Until recently, this Scientology-criticizing website has been a user of Google AdSense but, according to a letter from Google to Enturbulation, which has been cited by Chanologynews, the Enturbulation AdSense account had to be disabled.

The reason mentioned in the letter is that Google believes that the AdSence account of the anti-Scientology website could pose "a significant risk to our AdWords advertisers." By disabling their account, Google protected itself from future financial damage from their pro-Scientology advertisers. "Since keeping your account in our publisher network may financially damage our advertisers in the future, we’ve decided to disable your account." part of the letter said.

The owners of Enturbulation have no means of controlling the advertisements run on their website through their Google AdSense. The AdSense service provides advertisements on a specific website by using the content found on that web page. The issue not something the Enturbulation owners were not familiar with, as their own statement confirmed: "Most of you have noticed that we often have Church of Scientology ads running on our site". It is rather ironic that pro-Scientology ads are displayed on a webpage whose only purpose is to criticize the Scientology movement.

Google has yet to provide a comment on the matter. Meanwhile, the anti-Scientology website is said to be losing between $400 and $500 a month from ads revenue. The administrators of the website have also stated that they have to come up with a solution, otherwise their site will only be available for a few months more.

YouTube, Google's subsidiary, has also been featured in the news for taking down a YouTube channel of Mark Bunker, a well-known TV journalist and anti-Scientology activist.
