The Mobile Advertising Network AdMob has made another step in the mobile phone arena, with the launch of an open source SDK for the Palm webOS platform. The new release is set to prove the company's commitment towards enabling the mobile ecosystem, and follows the previously released solutions for devices powered by Apple's iPhone OS and by Google's Android platform.

“The goal of AdMob is to enable the mobile ecosystem. Our first step was to start serving ads on the mobile web. Then Apple launched their App Store and we were the first to start serving ads in apps. Soon after, the Android Marketplace came and again we were there with our Android SDK to do the same in Android apps. Today, we are excited to say that we have a new open source SDK to integrate AdMob ads in apps on Palm’s webOS platform,” the company states on its website.

The new AdMob Palm webOS SDK has been released now in a beta flavor, and is available on Google Code, the company announced. At the same time, it has also stated that its first ad unit for Palm webOS apps comes to the table with support for CPC text ads and CPM banner ads. “Our SDK itself is open source and licensed under the MIT license to align with Palm’s announced app distribution strategy,” AdMob further noted.

What the new solution aims at is offering developers a new possibility for generating revenues from their applications. Moreover, besides building compelling products, the solution is also expected to make them trust more in the opportunities the advertising in mobile applications across platforms can offer. According to AdMob, it is already working with a series of developers, such as Delicious Morsel and Byte Sequencing, for the inclusion of AdMob’s new Palm ad unit with their software solutions. There are two handsets available at the moment with Palm's webOS on board, the Palm Pre and Palm Pixi.
