Researchers now claim that, according to data obtained while carrying out a meta-analysis of over a dozen controlled trials, acupuncture has the potential to help menopausal women feel better.

Simply put, evidence indicates that, should women going through menopause agree to sit for acupuncture sessions, they are likely to experience a drop in the intensity and frequency of their hot flashes.

Such sessions can make hot flashes more bearable regardless of what form of acupuncture one opts for, i.e. traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture, acupressure, electroacupuncture, laser acupuncture, and ear acupuncture.

What's more, researchers say that, in some cases, the drop in the severity and frequency of hot flashes in menopausal women lasts for as much as three months in a row, Science Daily informs.

“More than anything, this review indicates that there is still much to be learned relative to the causes and treatments of menopausal hot flashes,” says Margery Gass, MD.

“The review suggests that acupuncture may be an effective alternative for reducing hot flashes, especially for those women seeking non- pharmacologic therapies,” the North American Menopause Society specialist goes on to explain.

Unfortunately, acupuncture appears to have no effect whatsoever on other symptoms associated with menopause such as mood swings and sleep problems.
