The newest most interesting text editor in the AppStore is Hanx Writer. This free app was created after an idea by renowned actor Tom Hanks. Hanx Writer has been described as an app that has the look and feel of a real type writer. The user doesn't have to surrender to modern luxuries like the Delete key on his iPad. Anyone can now enjoy the old feeling, the sound and the mechanics of an old-fashion word-processor.

When you first open the app you are greeted with a text written by Tom Hanks himself. He admits that in the '70s he bought a portable typewriter that he took everywhere he went. That was his first and then he acquired many other similar typewriters. Hanks nostalgically says he writes "without caring about typeovers, crossed-out words, goofy syntax and bad spelling because the feel and sound of a typewriter is satisfying in ways that could not be matched. Until now!"

After that you are presented with a blank page and a special keyboard that really looks like a typewriter one. You have a few options that you can purchase. Each purchase will bring another typewriter look and sound. The Hanx 707 will get you multiple ribbon colors and app background colors and the Hanx Golden Touch brings Text Alignment and Title page with pictures.

The developers have managed to include a trial feature. Anyone can use the two typewriters and then buy them for $2.99 (€2.23) each.  However, you are presented with a third option. For a price that is lower than the two typewriters combined you can get the "Writer's Block Bundle". That will get you multiple documents, text alignment, title page and picture, ribbon colors and background colors. This package's price is $4.99 (€3.73).

Tom Hanks accepted to be involved in a Twitter Q&A for the @AppStore account followers. He admitted he wanted to create this app because he wanted to have the sound of typing, that "Bang bang clack-clack-clack, puckapuckapuckapucka", as he describes it.

Hanks believes the default typewriter in the app is a reporter's desktop machine, while the Hanx 707 is modeled after those typewriters meant for air travel because is smaller and quieter. The last one, the Hanx Golden Touch is the luxury model, shiny and crisp.

Tom Hanks also revealed that his favorite apps for iOS are Star Walk and Uncrate. The session was held on a MacBook Air and Hanks confirmed his identity by posting a picture of him and his computer.

The actor ended his Q&A session by saying "The Future will be written on a #HanxWriter. This I vow".
