Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg mentioned that the publisher did not intend to provide a service similar to EA Access for the time being, but did not completely dismiss the possibility of such an occurrence in the future.

The information comes from Activision's earnings conference call for the second quarter of fiscal year 2014, during which the company CEO was asked whether the publisher intended to provide an online subscription service that would grant users access to select games from Activision's portfolio.

Hirshberg said that the publisher had a lot to focus on in the coming months, but as far as its existing franchises were concerned as well as in order to establish new ones, and he explained that Activision was always looking into new opportunities to expand its services and to better serve its customers and communities.

Should the new business models prove to be effective, Activision will also pursue them, provided that it makes sense for their players and business, but the focus for now is bringing the best returns for the company and its shareholders and expanding its existing services.

This would translate into Activision not considering doing anything in that direction for the time being, but also not completely dismissing the possibility that such an initiative would pop up in the future.
