Fresh money to be made by the big corporation

Music games are becoming more and more popular these days, largely due to Harmonix, the studio that first introduced full band play to a market where Guitar Hero dominated, despite offering the chance to play just one instrument. Now, the fact that you can rock out to your favorite tracks alongside your best friends or family is something that a lot of people are attracted to.

Activision, responsible for the Guitar Hero franchise, realized that and, because the latest iteration in the series, Guitar Hero: World Tour, is the only one to feature full band play, it has just announced that it will release Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits, a compilation of tracks that were featured in other GH titles launched before World Tour.

What does that mean? It means you'll get the chance to play tracks that were released for the first GH titles in your own World Tour copy. Songs from Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s, Guitar Hero II, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and other titles will soon be released for World Tour, but, sadly, there are no details on what tracks will get the full band treatment as of yet.

The compilation will be released this year for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii and, although this seems just another way for Activision to make a quick profit from old merchandise, it will surely make a lot of people who haven't played previous iterations want to buy it.

Let's just hope that we'll get to see a tracklist soon and find out just which songs will make the cut, and hopefully we will get to see the extremely popular Dragonforce – Through the fire and flames, which was featured in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, one of the most difficult in the entire series. Until then, we can still enjoy the great tracks found on GH: World Tour.
