The teasing begins

The Call of Duty franchise is one of the most popular shooter series out there, spanning from World War II to the current days in five titles, developed either by its original creators, Infinity Ward, or by the new Treyarch studio, which was responsible for the latest CoD: World at War title.

Activision, the publisher of the series, announced that this development cycle, with Infinity Ward releasing a game one year and Treyarch the next, would allow the franchise to be expanded in new ways, which would benefit end users, and Activision's financial results, of course. Although a lot of gamers feared the fact that Treyarch wouldn't stay true to the concepts of the series, as portrayed in the Infinity Ward titles, World at War was met with critical acclaim by industry critics, and huge sales.

This was largely due to the fact that it stayed true to the adrenaline filled recipe of Infinity Ward, and offered a great experience, even if the game was placed in the saturated World War II setting. As the title is out, some gaming industry representatives are wondering what kind of promotion the game will get, in terms of DLC and new content. Daniel Suarez, the executive producer of the game, talked with MTV Multiplayer about the plans for fresh content for the popular shooter.

He said that although he could not reveal any big detail, as an official announcement would be made at the beginning of 2009, the new DLC would be something very unusual, as opposed to the regular DLC packs for other titles in the franchise. “It’s not going to be what we’ve done traditionally. I’ll leave it a little bit mysterious. We want to do at least - the hope is - potentially two, maybe three packs out before we’re all said and done,” said Suarez.

For those of you who don't know, the predecessor of World at War, CoD 4: Modern Warfare, received a pack of downloadable content a few months after its release, which consisted of a few new multiplayer maps. So, although maps would be pretty good, a lot of fans are now starting to wonder about this unusual DLC that we might receive from Treyarch.

The developers have already showed us that humor plays a part in the game, as after you complete it, you unlock a special zombie mode. Let's just hope that this new DLC will make the release even better.
