It seems that video game publisher Activision is at the moment considering the creation of an in-house film studio, with a number of high-profile executives, which could work on bringing its biggest franchise, including Call of Duty, to the big screen and to various television channels.

A report from The Information quotes a number of unnamed sources inside the company who are saying that the model for the new division might be that used by Disney for the Marvel Studios, which only exist in order to create TV series and movies that use characters from the very big comic book universe it manages.

Bobby Kotick, the chief executive officer at Activision, is apparently in talks with a number of executives that could lead the new studio and is looking for a person who has the experience to make sure that a potential Call of Duty movie does not suffer the same fate as the old Doom adaptation.

The video game publisher has not offered any comment on the rumor, and an official announcement might come before the end of the year.

At the moment, Blizzard, which is owned by Activision, is working on a movie version of World of Warcraft, which has been in development since 2006 and was presumed to be canceled on a number of occasions.

The product is set to be launched in 2016 and is directed by Duncan Jones, best known for his work on Source Code and Moon.

The Warcraft movie is designed to appeal to a large audience and will apparently use a limited number of lore details associated with the MMO, although both a human and an orc will play major roles.

If an Activision movie studio becomes reality, it will probably first work on a big screen version of Call of Duty, which is at the moment the biggest franchise that the company owns.

Its next installment, called Advanced Warfare, is set to be launched on November 4 of this year on the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, the PC, and last-gen consoles.

It will take gamers to 2054 for a single-player in which cutscenes will feature Ken Spacey, a well-known actor, playing the role of the main villain.

The Skylanders series, which mixes toys and virtual experiences, might also be suited for a movie adaptation, especially given that a good story could be used to sell more physical products in the long term.
