Video game publisher Activision says that it is very pleased with the early performance of Hearthstone, the card-based title created by Blizzard, and that it sees the game as having the potential to become one of the next big franchises for the company.

VG247 quotes an investor conversation during which Bobby Kotick, the chief executive officer, explained that the audience for Hearthstone would expand rapidly, as the game would bring a full set of features on the PC and then on mobile devices and on tablets.

No plans for home console releases have been revealed so far.

At the same time, Activision announces that World of Warcraft, the MMO from Blizzard, has managed to get to 7.8 million subscribers for the third quarter of the fiscal year, which is a slight increase when compared to the previously tracked period.

Starcraft 2 was also the best-selling PC-based title in the United States for 2013.
