Battle.net, Blizzard's online service, might grow in the future and support the addition of new games, which aren't limited to the company's own portfolio, so titles from sister corporation Activision, including Call of Duty, for example, might be sold and have support for the PC service.

Blizzard's Battle.net service, in its new iteration, has become the core of the company's games, offering support for not only the new StarCraft II strategy game, but also for World of Warcraft, and is currently being upgraded to support Blizzard's next big game, Diablo III.

According to Battle.net project director Greg Canessa, Activision has been very supportive of Blizzard's online efforts, and is counting on the service to become a core part of its strategy in the future.

"[Activision has] ... said that Battle.net is one of the top five strategic initiatives going on at Activision Blizzard," he explained. "Having said that, Blizzard and Activision really are two separate entities, and we really do our own thing."

According to Canessa, the company is now focusing on expanding the support for StarCraft II and the upcoming expansion to World of Warcraft, Cataclysm, not to mention Diablo III.

"Today, [the focus is] Blizzard games, and making sure Diablo III is a [great] online experience, and making sure we evolve and add features of StarCraft II, make sure that WoW [will be great] for Cataclysm and beyond," he added.

Still, the Blizzard executive doesn't rule out the possibility of seeing other games being supported by Battle.net in the future, but only time will tell if that will happen.

"... Someday, maybe we'll add other titles in there, who knows. When we really feel like we've delivered that great set of experiences for Blizzard games, and we feel that we've grown the team... when I've got that sustainability, when we really feel like we've got that dialed in and nailed down, who knows what the future holds."
