The two shooters are different enough to attract various people

Activision, the publisher of the recent Destiny and the upcoming Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, believes the two first-person shooters can exist side by side, as their releases are sufficiently spread apart and they target slightly different audiences.

Activision has made a name for itself as a publisher relying only on its major franchises, like Call of Duty or Skylanders, to make a lot of profit that's then funneled back into the series, without ever considering the launch of new intellectual properties.

The corporation aimed at rectifying this image by launching earlier this week Destiny, a brand new project from independent developer Bungie, in which the publisher invested a lot of time and money.

The two shooters can co-exist

However, Destiny is still a first-person shooter that can compete with Activision's other big shooter series, Call of Duty. That isn't a problem, at least according to Activision UK & Ireland General Manager, Roy Stackhouse, who has talked with CVG about the two blockbuster titles.

"Well, we believe the two can exist side by side. We're very fortunate at Activision to have some of the biggest titles in the world and Destiny is now part of that stable. We believe that because there are enough differences between the two games, they can co-exist easily."

Stackhouse also emphasizes that the market is crowded enough as it is during the fall season, but that Destiny and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare can stand out from the rest.

"You also have to understand that at this time of the year, the market is very competitive anyway. The great position for us is that we have two of the major FPS titles of the year."

Destiny benefits from early September launch

Stackhouse also highlights that the early September release of Destiny allows it to be among the first fall blockbusters on the scene, ensuring a lot of attention from players and stores.

"The time has been great," he says, in reference to the release period. "The next gen consoles are firmly in the market and yes, it's been a quiet period, but we're coming into a busy time of the year."

"We've got the game, we're pleased with the marketing plans. If I remember correctly, there are going to be over 350,000 outlets stocking the game and over 1,000 midnight launches - and this is for a new IP. We're confident, but so are the fanbase too."

Destiny is already available worldwide across the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms.
