Video game publisher Activision announces that since it was launched on September 8, Destiny has managed to generate 325 million dollars (245 million Euro) worth of copies all over the world, via both physical stores and digital services, when taking into account the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, and last-gen versions.

The company says that the title now represents the best-selling new game franchise of all time, and the data is based on internal estimates and on actual sales reported by stores.

Activision previously stated that it shipped 500 million dollars (381 million Euro) worth of copies of the game to stores, which means that there are more packages available for those who want to pick one up.

Destiny will continue to generate sales

Eric Hirshberg, the chief executive officer of the publishing division of Activision, states, "Destiny fans played more than 100 million hours of the game in the first week. That's on par with the engagement levels of our most popular Call of Duty games, which obviously is an industry leader."

Since Destiny was launched, the developers at Bungie have already launched a major day-one update and a hotfix, and overall the community has been satisfied with the quality of the experience.

The CEO adds, "Millions of gamers are having a great time playing Destiny and can't put down their controllers. And this is just the beginning. Destiny is a platform that will grow and evolve and we will continue to work closely with our partners at Bungie to bring a long line of new experiences and content to life in the game."

A ten-year life plan for Destiny

Since the game was first announced, Bungie has been talking about a ten-year life plan for the first-person shooter, and at the moment the success of the first release pretty much guarantees that Activision will spend even more resources on the development of sequels.

Destiny is currently set to get a major downloadable content pack called The Dark Below before the end of the year on all platforms and at least another major expansion is also in development.

Bungie has also notified the community that it will run more events from now on, and the company is continuing to listen to feedback which can then be incorporated in patches.

Destiny has been well received by players but the relative lack of content on launch might prove to be a big problem in the coming months.
