The company wants to focus on the universes it creates itself

Video game publisher Activision has plans to launch a smaller number of video games based on its licensed properties, like James Bond or Spider Man, during the current year, focusing more on its own internally delivered universes.

A statement about the layoff of about 30 persons at the company, sent to Kotaku, states, “”In 2013, we expect to release fewer games based on license properties and as a result are realigning our structure to better reflect the market opportunities and our slate.”

It’s unclear whether the move is linked to their less than inspiring performance during the last few years or if Activision is simply waiting to see the next generation of home consoles announced before revealing new plans.

Bungie, the developer currently working with Activision, has recently announced its own Destiny project, which is set to be launched during 2014.
