The games in the Pitfall series have sold more than 10 million units to date and it seemed as if it was only a matter of time until a new Pitfall game was released. Apparently, the wait will be over by the end of the year, since Activision plans to release Pitfall: The Big Adventure to the Nintendo Wii consoles this fall.

With its classy, cartoonish visuals and probably support for the motion-sensing controller, the game will allow players to explore the Peruvian jungles. And we all know that jungles are dangerous places to hang out in - snakes, vine swinging and lots of other dangers are already awaiting and our character can only survive all these if we have good reflexes and are able to solve clever puzzles. But it won't be an easy job at all: 60 levels of rainforests, scary caves and glacial mountains are awaiting us to explore. Along the way, we'll battle shamans, jump over dangerous snakes and find lots of hidden treasures: a great, fun experience, if we are to use only a few words to describe the game.

"Pitfall is one of the most legendary franchises in the history of videogames, so we look forward to releasing a new version exclusively for Wii," said Dave Oxford, Activision Publishing. "What could be more fun than using the Wii Remote to swing on a vine over blood thirsty crocodiles as retro-cool Pitfall Harry?! Wii is a natural and perfect fit for a Pitfall game, and it's been fantastic to revolutionize this classic franchise through the application of the innovative Wii game mechanics. It's a completely new experience for the gamer".

Pitfall: The Big Adventure will be released this fall as a Nintendo Wii exclusive. Stay tuned with Softpedia for even more details about this promising new title from Activision.
